Phil Ivey has been branded as the best poker competitor in the world by most of the top-ranked professionals. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to New Jersey before his first birthday. His papa showed him to one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was addicted to poker and wished to pickup whatever he possibly could about the game. He would tell his grandparents that he was planning on being a professional poker player. He didn’t allow the adverse comments from others annihilate his ambition of being one of the best poker players in the world.

He started competing intently after acquiring a false ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his abilities at the casinos in Atlantic City. The beginning few years for Phil were a teaching opportunity and winning wasn’t a normal outcome at the time. He became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he made two final tables and won his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the final table he destroyed quite a few of the better known professionals which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He made a decision to take his skills to the successive level and headed out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Ivey credits his achievements to discipline and an immeasurable passion for poker. He says that he is picking up skills every day and is quite humble about his success. He knows he makes errors in each session of poker and always strives to get better.

Despite the fact that Phil has come first in some big tournaments, he favors winning cash games on a normal basis.
