Phil Ivey has been referred to as the best poker competitor on the planet by most of the top professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before reaching turning one. His grandpa taught Phil one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was addicted to poker and wished to pickup anything he possibly could about the game. He routinely told his grandparents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He didn’t allow the detrimental feedback from others annihilate his ambition of becoming one of the best poker players in the world.
Phil began competing seriously after getting a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his abilities at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The beginning few years for Phil were a learning period and winning was not a normal outcome at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 WSOP when he achieved two final tables and won his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the closing table he destroyed quite a few of the better known professionals which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He made a decision to take his game to the next level and moved out west to Sin City. He continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Ivey credits his success to hard work and an eternal passion for poker. Phil says that he is picking up skills every single day and is quite abashed about his achievements. Phil admits to making blunders every single session of poker and always aspires to get better.
Even though Phil has won some big-time tournaments, he prefers destroying cash games on a regular basis.
