Phil Ivey has been referred to as the best poker player in the world by quite a few of the top pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to New Jersey before his first birthday. His grandfather introduced him to one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was addicted to poker and wished to discover every little thing he could about poker. He routinely told his parents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He did not permit the adverse comments from others kill his dream of becoming one of the greatest poker players on the planet.

Phil began competing intently after getting a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his techniques at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The initial number of years for Phil were a learning opportunity and winning wasn’t a regular thing at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he achieved two final tables and came away with his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the last table he defeated a number of the well known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil made a decision to take his game to the next level and moved out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Ivey credits his success to dedication and an eternal passion for the game of poker. Phil says that he’s picking up skills every day and is very abashed about his accomplishments. He knows he makes mistakes every single game of poker and constantly strives to improve.

Although Ivey has won some big tournaments, he favors destroying cash games on a normal basis.
