Phil Ivey has been labeled as the greatest poker competitor on the globe by many of the top-ranked professionals. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before reaching the age of 1. His grandpa taught Phil one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was addicted to poker and wished to discover anything he possibly could about the game. Phil would tell his parents that he was planning on being a professional poker player. Phil did not permit the adverse comments from other people destroy his dream of becoming one of the strongest poker competitors in the world.
Phil began playing intently after acquiring a false ID by the name of Jerome. He honed his abilities at the casinos of Atlantic City. The initial few years for him were a learning period and coming away with a win wasn’t a normal thing at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he made two final tables and came away with his first WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the closing table he defeated many of the well known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil decided to take his skills to the successive level and moved out west to Sin City. He continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Phil credits his success to discipline and an immeasurable love for the game of poker. He states that he’s picking up skills every single day and is very abashed about his accomplishments. Phil admits to making blunders in each game of poker and constantly aspires to get better.
Although Ivey has come first in some big tournaments, he favors destroying money games on a regular basis.
