Phil Ivey has been referred to as the number one poker competitor on the planet by many of the top professionals. He was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before reaching turning one. His papa taught Phil penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was addicted to poker and wished to learn anything he possibly could about poker. Phil routinely told his grandparents that he was going to be a professional poker player. He did not allow the negative feedback from others destroy his goal of being one of the best poker competitors on the planet.

Phil began playing seriously after acquiring a false ID by the name of Jerome. He sharpened his techniques at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The first number of years for him were a learning opportunity and winning wasn’t a common thing at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 WSOP where he achieved two final tables and won his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the closing table he defeated many of the better known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He made a decision to take his game to the successive level and headed out west to Vegas. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Phil credits his achievements to hard work and an eternal passion for poker. Phil says that he’s learning every day and is very abashed about his achievements. Phil admits to making blunders every single session of poker and constantly aspires to improve.

Despite the fact that Phil has come first in some big-time tournaments, he prefers winning money games on a normal basis.
