Phil Ivey has been referred to as the number one poker player on the globe by most of the top pros. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before his first birthday. His grandfather taught him penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was hooked on poker and wished to learn everything he possibly could about poker. Phil routinely told his grandparents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil did not allow the detrimental feedback from other people destroy his ambition of being one of the greatest poker competitors in the world.

He started competing intently after acquiring a false ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his game at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The first number of years for him were a teaching opportunity and winning wasn’t a normal outcome at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he made two final tables and won his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the last table he defeated many of the better known professionals which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He decided to take his game to the successive level and headed out west to Sin City. He continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Ivey credits his achievements to discipline and an immeasurable love for the game of poker. He states that he is learning every day and is quite humble about his achievements. Phil knows he makes mistakes every single game of poker and always strives to get better.

Despite the fact that Ivey has come first in some big-time tournaments, he prefers destroying cash games on a regular basis.
