Phil Ivey has been referred to as the best poker player on the globe by quite a few of the top-ranked pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to Jersey before reaching turning 1. His grandfather taught Phil penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was hooked on poker and wished to learn every little thing he possibly could about the game. He would tell his grandparents that he was planning on being a professional poker player. He did not let the detrimental feedback from other people destroy his ambition of being one of the strongest poker players in the world.
He started playing intently after acquiring a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He sharpened his skills at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The initial few years for him were a teaching experience and coming away with a win was not a normal outcome at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 WSOP where he achieved 2 final tables and came away with his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the closing table he defeated many of the well known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil decided to take his skills to the successive level and moved out west to Vegas. He continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Ivey credits his success to hard work and an eternal love for the game of poker. He states that he is picking up skills every single day and is quite abashed about his success. He knows he makes mistakes in each game of poker and constantly aspires to get better.
Although Ivey has won some big-time tournaments, he favors destroying cash games on a normal basis.
