Phil Ivey has been referred to as the best poker contender in the world by quite a few of the top-ranked pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to NJ before his first birthday. His grandpa introduced him to one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was hooked on poker and wished to discover everything he possibly could about the game. He routinely would tell his parents that he was going to be a professional poker player. Phil did not permit the detrimental feedback from other people annihilate his goal of being one of the greatest poker players on the planet.
Phil started playing seriously after getting a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his game at the casinos of Atlantic City. The beginning few years for him were a learning period and coming away with a win wasn’t a normal thing at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he made 2 final tables and came away with his first WSOP bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the final table he destroyed quite a few of the better known professionals which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He made a decision to take his skills to the next level and headed out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Phil credits his achievements to hard work and an eternal love for the game of poker. Phil says that he’s picking up skills every single day and is quite abashed about his achievements. He admits to making mistakes in each session of poker and constantly aspires to improve.
Even though Ivey has won some large tournaments, he likes winning cash games on a regular basis.
