Phil Ivey has been labeled as the number one poker contender on the planet by most of the top-ranked pros. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before reaching turning one. His papa taught Phil one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was addicted to poker and wanted to pickup anything he could about poker. He routinely told his parents that he was going to be a professional poker player. He didn’t permit the detrimental comments from others kill his dream of becoming one of the best poker players on the planet.

He started playing intently after getting a false ID by the name of Jerome. He honed his techniques at the casinos in Atlantic City. The first number of years for him were a teaching period and coming away with a win was not a regular thing at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he made 2 final tables and won his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the last table he defeated many of the better known pros which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil decided to take his game to the next level and moved out west to Vegas. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Ivey credits his achievements to dedication and an undying passion for the game of poker. Phil says that he is learning every single day and is very abashed about his accomplishments. He admits to making mistakes every single game of poker and always aspires to get better.

Despite the fact that Ivey has won some big tournaments, he likes winning cash games on a normal basis.
