Phil Ivey has been branded as the greatest poker contender on the globe by quite a few of the top pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to Jersey before his first birthday. His papa taught him one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was addicted to poker and wished to discover anything he possibly could about the game. Phil routinely would tell his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil did not allow the negative comments from other people destroy his ambition of being one of the greatest poker players in the world.
He began competing seriously after acquiring a false ID by the name of Jerome. He sharpened his techniques at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The beginning number of years for Phil were a teaching opportunity and coming away with a win wasn’t a regular thing at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 WSOP where he achieved two final tables and won his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the closing table he destroyed a number of the better known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil decided to take his game to the next level and headed out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Phil credits his success to hard work and a continuing passion for the game of poker. Phil states that he’s learning every day and is incredibly humble about his accomplishments. He knows he makes mistakes in each session of poker and constantly strives to get better.
Despite the fact that Ivey has come first in some large tournaments, he prefers destroying money games on a normal basis.
