Phil Ivey has been branded as the best poker contender on the globe by most of the top pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before reaching the age of one. His grandpa taught Phil penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was addicted to poker and wanted to discover every little thing he could about poker. He routinely told his parents that he was going to be a professional poker player. He did not let the adverse feedback from other people kill his dream of being one of the greatest poker competitors in the world.
Phil began playing intently after acquiring a false ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his techniques at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The initial few years for Phil were a teaching opportunity and coming away with a win was not a normal outcome at the time. He became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he achieved two final tables and came away with his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the closing table he defeated many of the better known pros which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil decided to take his game to the next level and headed out west to Las Vegas. He continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Phil credits his success to hard work and an eternal love for poker. He states that he’s picking up skills every single day and is incredibly abashed about his success. Phil admits to making blunders in each session of poker and constantly strives to get better.
Although Ivey has come first in some big tournaments, he favors winning cash games on a regular basis.
